Abstract

Piper nigrum 2.0% seed powder acted as the best ovipositional deterrent. Adult emergence ranged between 6.6 (P. nigrum 1.50%) and 16.0 (P. nigrum 0.25%). In Pn10DT 4.0%, 39.9 eggs were laid. Seed weight loss was less (0.18%) in Pn10DT 4.0%. Germination was maximum (90.6%) in Pn10DT 4.0%. This was most effective in reducing the oviposition. Egg hatchability of Callosobruchus maculatus ranged between 57.1 (Pn10DF 2.0%) and 73.7% (Pn10DF 1.0%). Only 7.0 beetles emerged from the seeds treated with Pn10DF 4.0%. Seed weight loss was 0.3% in Pn10DF 4.0 and 3.5%. Germination ranged between 57.3 (Pn10DF 0.5%) and 93.3% (Pn10DF 4.0%).
