Abstract

This article aims to study and analyze the Turkish foreign policy in Iraq from 2003 to 2013 and its impact on Iran`s security. Turkey is considered an active and effective actor in Iraq`s events. Turkey has several political and economic security concerns on the issues of post-Saddam in Iraq, including the Kurds, Turkmen, terrorism, the new political structure of power in Baghdad, water crisis, U.S. presence, and similar topics. The presence and role of Turkey in Iraq events are also effective in Iran`s national security and interests. Studying the Turkish interests in Iraq in various fields shows that areas of cooperation and common interests between Iran and Turkey are more highlighted than areas of challenge and competition. Despite some disputes and disagreements, Tehran and Ankara can convert these challenges and threats into interaction and opportunity. Solutions are proposed for the Islamic Republic of Iran to take advantage of the opportunities and stave off the security threats.
