Human Resources Management Practices and Organisational Commitment in Textile Industry Dr. Kamalakannan P. Abstract Background This research primarily focuses on the impact of important Human Resource Management (HRM) practices on organisational commitment in a textile mill setting. Purpose/Objectives The purpose of this paper is to analyse the impact of chosen HRM practices (Training and development, Staffing, Performance Feedback, Rewards System, Motivation, Welfare measures, Organizational Communication, Employees’ Participation in Management) on prganisational commitment in a private textile manufacturing compant at Salem, aTier-II city in Tamilnadu, India. Design/Methodology/Approach Exploratory research helped identify important HRM practices. Analytical research helped in measurement of variables and their impact using factor and regression analysis. Primary data was collected through administration of structured questionnaire. The survey was undertaken in the premises of a private sector textile company, Sambandam Spinning Mill Limted (SSML). Research Limitations Study was undertaken at a particular company only. Hence results cannot be extrapolated top other provate or public sector mills and geographical areas. Employee opinions are dynamic and so are company's implementation of HRM practices. Practical Implications of Findings The constructs in the study are a revelation to textgile mill administrators who are struggling to foster employee commitment and morale. This research espouses the case of a more holistic approach to understand what fosters excellent HRM practices and employee commitment. Originality/Value The paper provides insights into whcih HRM variables significantly impact organisational commitment, especially in the textile mill setting.
