Abstract The use of literature in EFL/ESL classroom was a well-established tradition; but in recent years, there has been an uneasy relationship between language and literature. With the inception of CLT in Bangladesh, special concentration has been given on functional English texts neglecting literature, particularly poetry in language classroom. Therefore, most of the English teachers like to skip the lesson (containing poetry) or finish it in a very short time, for they tend to think it less important than other lessons. However, present-day studies find that poetry, like other genres, functions not only as a model of language but also as a springboard for teaching four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). The aim of this article is to review the importance of poetry as a language teaching content and show a model lesson plan how poetry may be used in L2 classroom. In this regard, Robert Frost's poem, ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’ has been demonstrated.
