Online published on 3 January, 2012. Abstract Tourism is a major phenomenon of the modern society, which has emerged as an economic activity of immense global importance. Perhaps there is hardly any other field of activity where so many people are involved directly or indirectly. Tourism has found a niche for itself as an effective instrument for generating employment, earning revenue and foreign exchange, enhancing environment, preserving culture and traditional thereby facilitating overall development. Tourism is the one of world's largest and fastest growing industries. Economic diversification and technological improvement has created conducive environment for tourism development in the present age of globalisation (Tourism vision, 2025). Tourism is important to India. So to improve the volume of tourism, infrastructural facilities have to be improved. The purpose of this study was to examine the needs of domestic tourists by identifying their perceptions and levels of satisfaction with the services and facilities provided by the tourism industry in Ooty and to understand the various demographic features among the tourists.
