Abstract A simple, precise and accurate HPTLC method has been established for the determination of quercetin and rutin in test formulations of Drakshasava as Drakshasava-T and Drakshasava-M prepared by traditional and modern method respectively and also in its marketed formulation. Drakshasava is a polyherbal hydro alcoholic preparation and is used to improve digestion, as blood purifier, in the treatment of anaemia and advised as a choice of remedy in respiratory problems. The developed HPTLC method was validated in terms of precision, accuracy, LOD, LOQ and specificity. The amount of quercetin in Drakshasava-T, M and in its marketed formulation was found to be 0.00159, 0.00147 and 0.00143% w/w respectively while rutin was found to be 0.00356, 0.00330 and 0.00340% w/w respectively. Quantification of quercetin and rutin in Drakshasava has been reported first time by validated HPTLC. Furthermore, no TLC densitometric methods have been reported for the quantification of quercetin and rutin from Drakshasava. Top Keywords Drakshasava, HPTLC, validation, quercetin, rutin. Top |
