Abstract Nano ZnO has shown to be a suitable catalyst in a multicomponent reaction involving an aldehyde, an amine, and thioglycolic acid in N,N-dimethylformamide at moderate temperature (50°C) to form thiazolidinones. This one-pot method involved reasonable reaction time, easy workup and purification procedure to furnish products in excellent yields. In particular, campholenic aldehyde obtained from α-pinene was used to synthesize medicinally useful bioactive thiazolidinones. Products were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 2DNMR and mass spectra. Top Keywords Nano ZnO, thiazolidinones, multi component reaction (MCR), moderate conditions, easy workup and purification. Top |
