They are also used as intermediates in organic synthesis. In the present work hydrazide based Schiff bases are synthesized from naturally occurring phenolic monoterpenoid, thymol (2isopropyl-5-methyl phenol), in order to generate biologically active moieties. Series of nine (4a-i) hydrazidehydrazone derivatives (six being new compounds)) has been synthesized by reacting 2-(2-isopropyl-5-methyl phenoxy) acetohydrazide with various benzaldehydes. All the derivatives are characterized by spectroscopic techniques. 1H, 13C NMR data of these compounds permits assignments related to the existence of E and Z isomerism in seven compounds. All the derivatives are screened for their antioxidant activity by using DPPH assay. Top Keywords Hydrazide-Hydrazone derivatives, spectral studies, E and Z isomers, Antioxidant activity. Top |
