The reactants are taken in a mortar and grounded with a pestle for about 20 to 30 min at room temperature. The reactants are taken in a beaker and placed in microwave for about 30 secs to 1 min. The reactions afforded formyl derivatives in fairly good yields when a mixture of dimethyl formamide (DMF) and SOCl2 is used as VH reagent. Results of solvent free reactions are more superior over solution phase reactions with very good yields and far lesser reaction times.
