Abstract In the present study, the measurement of linear and mass attenuation coefficient of Salicylic Acid, Citric acid, Cinnamic acid and Oxalic acid show a linear relation with the energy. Solution technique is developed for the measurement of linear and mass attenuation coefficients of acids for gamma rays and from them elemental attenuation coefficient are estimated. The linear and mass attenuation coefficients of some compound of organic acid samples have been measured employing NaI (TI) Scintillation detector. The electronic setup used is a NaI (TI) detector, which is coupled to MCA for 8k multichannel analyzer of the spectrum. A source of Cs137 is used to get gamma rays in the energy range 662.16, 1173 keV. Their experimental results show excellent agreement with theory.
