World Health Organization revealed that approximately 80% of the world's population currently uses medicines from herbal origin in healing different ailments due to their availability affordability and accessibility. The parts of plant Cordia retusa are used for female reproductive disorders. Hence the present work was executed to evaluate the fertility intensifying effect of aerial parts of Cordia retusa which is traditionally used as a fertility enhancer. The effect of ethanolic extract of Cordia retusa on ethinyl estradiol induced infertility model with anovulation was examined. The extract at two different doses of 125 mg/kg as low dose and 250mg/kg as high dose were administered orally. The effect of extract on estrous cycle, serum FSH level, serum estrogen level, and fertility index were also evaluated to study the fertility intensifying activity. The high dose of ethanolic extract of Cordia retusa exhibited statistically a high significant (P<0.001) level in regularization of estrous cycle, statistically a high significant increase (P<0.001) in serum FSH level and serum estrogen level were observed when compared to negative control group. The high dose of ethanolic extract produced statistically a high significant (P<0.001) increase in number of newborns when compared to negative control group. The ethanolic extract from aerial parts of Cordia retusa induces fertility in female rats which were ethinyl estradiol induced anovulatory models.
