A study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on the knowledge of women regarding menopausal changes in selected rural areas of Mysore

Abstract

Introduction

Menopause means permanent cessation of menstruation at the end of the reproductive life due to loss of ovarian follicular activity. It is the point of time when last and final menstruation occurs.

Aims and objectives

The main aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge among rural women regarding menopausal changes in selected rural areas of Mysore.

Approach and design

In the study, pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was used.

Samples and sampling criteria

Convenient sampling technique was adopted to select 30 rural women. The knowledge was measured by using structured knowledge questionnaire regarding menopausal changes. A structured teaching programme was conducted for the samples. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Result

The results of study revealed that the significance of difference between the mean pre-test and mean post-test knowledge scores which was statistically tested using paired ‘t ’test and was found to be highly significant at 0.05 level of significance. The results also show that the knowledge scores of rural women had no significant association with their selected personal variables like age, education, religion, occupation, type of family, marital status, previous exposure to any awareness programmes, Utilization of services, sources of awareness, illness, number of children, attainment of menopause, use of contraceptive, type of contraceptive, mode of delivery,

Conclusion

Therefore, the study concluded that the administration of structured teaching programme was an effective method to improve the knowledge of rural women regarding menopausal changes.
