Management of prostitution businesses in India: A structural analysis

Abstract

Prostitution is nothing but commercialization of sexual activities. It describes the sexual intercourse in exchange of remuneration. Their existence and operation is present in almost all states of India in different forms through different sources. The paper tries to highlight the status and structure of prostitution business in India and how the demands of customers are met. Starting from historical and ved period the existence of prostitution in different form and changes over the period with respect to development has been elaborated. The role of pimps and madam are highlighted keeping in view the channels through which girls are supplied distributing the share of law and order enactors, the hierarchy of suppliers, share in income, customer's status in different forms of prostitution is explained.
