Abstract

Every nation across the world strives for its growth through capacity building. There are many ways of enhancing nation's capacity. Research or PhD being one of the major contributors to the capacity building, the trend now all over the world is to have high value, high-skilled economies and the first step towards this aim is to have a well-educated and resourceful workforce. There is a shift from the ‘Transactional Business Model’ to the ‘Transformational Business Model’ which aims at developing corporate capacity with an inherent competitive advantage and is possible through Industrial Research. Potential employers are not interested in just the PhD degree but they are looking out for researchers with wider skill sets and competencies. Doctoral education/PhD has a great potential for innovation and positive change in the growth sectors of an economy adding to the national capacity building.
