Availability of health services in Anganawadi centers –a case study

Abstract

India faces a peculiar situation of the world‘s the biggest nutrition program‘s co-exiting with sum of the worst statistics of malnutrition in the world. To comeback these situation the government of India in 1975 initiated the integrated child development services scheme which operates at the state level to address the health issues of children‘s, all are the country. The Anganawadi worker and helper are basic functionaries of the ICDS who run the Anganwadi center and implement the ICDS scheme in co-ordination with the functionaries of the health, education, rural development and other departments. Their services also include the health and nutrition of pregnant women, nursing mothers and adolescent girls. The health family welfare department identified 73,997 children below 6 years of age who are severely underweight during the health camp conducted in October 2013 as many as 48,18,267 children of this age group were weighed during the camp. Principal Secretary Health and family welfare. M Madan gopal stated that 73,997 severely under weight children 40,649 were examine by Doctor and 12,634 children were provided with treatment. Meanwhile 2479 children were referred specialized hospital further examination. The present study was try to evaluate functionaries1 of Anganawadi centers and its effects on target groups.
