A Comparative Economics of SRI with Conventional Method of Rice Cultivation in Tripura Majumder Saddam Hossen, Gogoi P.B., Hazarika J.P., Deka Nivedita Department of Agricultural Economics, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat-785 013, Assam Online published on 20 November, 2017. Abstract Considering the growing importance of system of rice intensification (SRI) in the state, the present study was conducted in Sepahijala district of Tripura. The study has examined the comparative economics of SRI and conventional methods of rice cultivation in Tripura during the year 2016–17. For study, 120 sample farmers were selected by using multistage random sampling. The cost concepts used were Cost A, Cost B and Cost C. This paper has compared the economics of SRI and the conventional methods of rice cultivation. It has shown that gross returns and net returns were much higher in SRI than in conventional methods. The return over cost was also higher for SRI (2.08) than for conventional (1.52) method. The study has concluded that SRI has a tremendous potential to increase the production of rice. The adoption of this technique would provide higher yields to farmers which in turn will improve their socio-economic status. Top Keywords SRI, return over cost, yields, profitability, rice, farmers’ income, Tripura. Top | |
