Abstract The paper has assessed the comparative impact of rice cultivation under SRI (System of Rice Intensification) over non-SRI on the livehood of farmers in Tripura state. For study, 100 SRI and 100 non-SRI rice cultivators were selected through multistage random sampling procedure from South Tripura and West Tripura districts of the state. The study has revealed that adoption of SRI was directly related to socio-economic factors like age, education, family size and landholding size of farmers. The study has found that annual income of SRI farmers was higher than that of non-SRI farmers. It was also found that the average consumption of different food commodities (rice, pulses, fish, meat, milk, fruits, vegetables, etc.) in quantitative terms was higher among SRI households than non-SRI households. The study has reported that besides economic security, SRI households have better health security, education security, habitat security and social network security. The study has suggested that SRI method should be popularised in the state by extension personnel. Top Keywords SRI, rice, livelihood security, income security, Tripura. Top |
