Correlation and path analysis studies in sorghum

The correlation and path analysis studies were carried out in 24 genotypes of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench at Department of Agricultural Botany, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani (M. S.) during kharif 2006–07.

Experimental results revealed the improvement in componental characters including panicle length, number of grains per panicle, panicle width, test weight, number of primary branches per panicle and harvest index through simple selection methods in kharif sorghum and these characters had positive and significant association with seed yield of sorghum. The maximum positive significant correlation of panicle length was observed with panicle width, plant height, number of primary branches per panicle, test weight and harvest index, respectively. Results of path analysis showed that the days to 50% flowering, panicle length, plant height and number of grains per panicle were important characters for seed yield of kharif sorghum.
