Abstract

Karyological investigations were carried out on adult males of four species of Laprosticti scarabaeoid beetles, viz, Onthophagus aguns Gill, Onthophagus catta Fabricius, Onthophagus cervus (Fabricius) and Onthophagus pactolus (Fabricius). Onthophagus catta exhibited the ‘modal’ polyphagan karyotype 2n = 20:9 + Xyr and remaining three species of Onthophagus possess 2n = 20:9 + Xyp polyphagan karyotype. Mitosis and meiosis have been described and discussed.
