Abstract

Reptiles are an ecologically significant component of Duars fauna. Indian Rock Pythons are among the top predator species of snake. The Indian Rock Pythons are protected under schedule-I category of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. They are facing threat in their habitat of the Duars mainly because of climate change and habitat loss which influences their general movement and migration pattern. They are often observed in road, railway track and human dominant areas. The rescue, rehabilitation and release in the deep forest are keys to Indian Rock Python survival in human dominated rural and urban landscape of duars. The snake rescuers play a vital role in the Duars in conserving the Indian Rock Python in their own habitat.
