to determine histological changes in the pulp in response to varies stages of caries infection of tooth.
pulp is a soft dental tissue underlying the dentin. It consists of the blood vessels and nerves supplying the tooth. When dental caries reaches the pulp it causes pulpits. When the pulp gets infected in undergoes the following reactions to protect itself. 1 Decrease in dentin permeability. 2 Tertiary dentin formations. 3 Inflammatory and immune responses.
10 extracted teeth with varying extent of caries are decalcified and fixed for observation under light microscope. The various changes in the pulp are noted.
Pulp shows significant response only when the caries reaches the dentin. However the present study was designed to see the pulpal response at various stages. Analogous to this, it might also help in knowing the response to various materials used for restoring these teeth.
