Abstract

Helminthiasis, also known as worm infection is macro parasitic disease of humans and other animals in which a part of the body is infected with parasitic worms, known as Helminths. There has been an enormous interest in the development of alternative medicines against Helminthiasis, specifically screening for phytochemicals with Antihelminthic activity. The present study aims to provide Phytochemical screening and antihelminthic activity results of leaves extract of Artocarpus altilis using dichloromethane-methanol as extraction solvent. So far no work has been carried out using combinations of solvents for leaves of Artocarpus altilis for carrying out anthelmintic activity. In-vitro anthelmintic activity carried out against Indian adult earthworm Pheretima posthuma using dichloromethane: methanol leaves extract of Artocarpus altilis showed promising activity when compared to standard albendazole.
