Anxiolytic potential of Perseaamericana M. by elevated plus maze test
Abstract
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anti-anxiety activity of the ethanolic and aqueous extract of Perseaamericana bark by the elevated plus maze method using swiss albino mice. The anti-anxiety activity of the ethanolic and aqueous extracts at doses 100, 200 and 400mg/kg body weight, was evaluated using the elevated plus maze method. Diazepam (0.5mg/kg) was used as the standard drug for comparison. In this study the ethanolic and the aqueous extract (200mg/kg and 400mg/kg) showed significant increase in the following parameters: % number of open arm entries and % time spent in open arms in Elevated Plus maze method. From the present study it can be concluded that Perseaamericana bark showed a significant anti-anxiety activity.
