A rapid and reliable reverse phase HPLC (RP-HPLC) method was developed for the determination of clopyralid in soil and water. Separation of clopyralid was achieved on a C-18 column using isocratic mobile phase consisting of 0.02% acetic acid in 9:1 v/v methanohacetonitrile. UV-229 nm wavelength was used for the detection in fixed wavelength detector of RP-HPLC. Quantification was performed using calibration curves which were linear (r = 0.998) over the dynamic range of 0.25–5.00 μg ml−1. Limit of quantification were 0.02 μg ml−1 and 0.05 μg g−1 for water and soil respectively. The percent RSD was 1.87.
