Successful accomplishments of human resource functions have a crucial impact on the growth and development of individuals as professionals and library users. The present article is an attempt to explore the views/works on the constituent components of human resource development in various organisations in India and abroad. Comprehensive review of related literature is done and is divided into seven components identified to study Human resource development policies existing in various organisations like Human Resource Planning, Recruitment and Selection, Placement and Induction and Promotion and Motivation. Review starts with select writings on HRD/HRM component in general. The extensive search of literature indicates that HRD is just not the employer-employee relationship, but it is much more than that. It is actually directly related to the job of the individual and finally what we learn from the literature is that the development of any organization is possible if we show more concern to human resources while at the same time constant changes at the organizational level makes it difficult for employees to cope.
