Abstract

This is a self-controlled study to see the effect of yogic practices (Sudarshan Kriya (SK)) on personality in normal adults (males and females).

Of the total 83 subjects, 74 subjects aged between 25 and 55 years, of both sexes, who satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria and who consented to participate in the study were enrolled into two sessions. Each enrolled subject practiced SK for 1 h/day for 6 days/week for 6 months. Personality was assessed before and after 3 months using ‘The Chakra Personality Test’ to assess the Satvik, the Rajsik and the Tamasik personalities.

A significant increase in the Satvik, marginal increase in the Rajsik and significant decrease in the Tamasik personalities was observed (P = 0.001).

This study has shown the influence of SK on personality.
