Abstract

Stature estimation from mutilated remains may creat a medico-legal problem of first magnitude which is likely to tax the resources of most experienced forensic expert. Data on 150 male and female young and healthy adults between the age group of 20–30 years, born and brought up in cosmopolitan city of Delhi, have been collected. On computing the data, it was observed that a positive correlation exists between the lengths of individual finger and stature and by using the independent regression equations. The accurate or near accurate stature can be calculated from the length of fingers. It was also found that in both the sexes there was a right sided preponderance. However, the difference was marginal and statistically insignificant.
