A Descriptive study to assess Anthropometric parameters in determining prevalence of overweight among Adolescent Girls

Abstract

Globally, in both developing and developed countries, there is a growing prevalence of overweight and obesity. Over the past 20 years, the rate of obesity has tripled in developing countries.

Was to determine the prevalence of overweight among adolescent girls and their association with selected demographic variables.

A purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from the samples. The sample size was 60 students. Anthropometric parameters of adolescent girls were assessed by measuring height, weight and BMI.

Among 60 girls responded, the mean height and SD scores were 153.62±5.62 and mean weight and SD scores were found to be 57.16±10.37 respectively. According to BMI Classification, in which majority of the adolescent girls 35(58.33%) falls under overweight category and rest 10(16.66%), 9(15%) and 6(10%) belong to normal, underweight and obese category respectively.
