Abstract

The wool consists of around 90% keratin, an essential ingredient in cosmetics, shampoos, and hair care creams. The goal of this study was to determine the optimum conditions for keratin from wool extraction. Keratin isolation using different agents for sulfitolysis has been studied using statistical experimental method. In the extraction procedure, concentration Thiourea (CH4N2S), temperature and time reaction were analysed. The optimization yield (%) of keratin was achieved at obtained corresponds to the concentration Thiourea of x1= 8.6%, the tempera-ture of x2= 65.50°C and the reaction time of x3= 2 h, using response surface methodology (RSM). In addition, because of its good the model of experiment was significant with p<0.05 and adj R2 = 0.9991 with a good yield of keratin.
