Abstract

Phenothiazine is an aromatic heterocyclic compound, used as tricyclic anti psychotic drugs. Synthesis of phenothiazine was started in the year 1883. In early era phenothiazine used as dye cellulose and fibers. But as a drug phenothiazine was focused in 1950s, as 10-substituted derivatives. Along with this phenothiazine also has antiseptic, anti helminthes, and insecticidal effect. Most prominent use of these derivatives is as tranquilizer because it has defused anti psychotic effect. It is also reported to have anti cancer, antitubercular, antiinflammatory, anticonvulsant, anthelmintic, analgesic and antiviral effects. The biological evaluation for the CNS depressant activity has been performed. From the biological investigation, it is found that out of all the synthesized two compounds show potent CNS depressant activity.
