Tech-Enabled Info-Structure: Indispensable for knowledge society

Abstract

This write up aims at exploring the technology-enabled info-structure (information structure) and its many ramifications in higher education and also discusses about the rationale and key challenges for knowledge society. In the globalized and knowledge based society, the quality and standards of education and training in India are criticized more particularly for not serving the purpose of a more robust, viable and sustainable society. At the turn of the 21st century, non-wired communication and media are becoming ubiquitous. Time and again, it is observed that almost all segments of society depend upon e-resources through information and communication technology. At the same time, tech-enabled info-structure is bringing sweeping changes to the whole business of educational transactions. This paper, however, attempts to explore the possible benefits and outcomes of the tech-enabled info-structure in the 21st century knowledge society. It also discusses a few challenges concerned with the designing and developing tech-enabled info-structure in a developing country like India. For knowledge society to be effective, representative, and participative, extensive consideration may be given to the appropriate selection and use of technological tools, devices and other applications. Thus, the ICT based information structure has become an important vehicle for educational transaction, day to day communication and transmission of knowledge, sharing of information and enhancement of skills. The paper, however, concludes that technology enabled info-structure needs to be strengthened and new technologies, applications and other appliances should be widely utilized for varied purposes thereby strengthening the knowledge society.
