Data mining and statistics: Distinguishable disciplines

Abstract

Data Mining is extensively used field of Computer Science and Engineering. In the present business scenario, Data Mining is the commercial analysis tool for business development. Statistics is the basic branch of science, deals with data, and its analysis and interpretation. The two disciplines, statistics and data mining have common aims of discovering structures in data even though the way of dealing with the data of both disciplines is different. Both are having specific applications in many areas like Business Management, Education, Scientific innovation, technical analysis and research. Both disciplines are also having common application domain. In this paper, we have tried to elaborate both disciplines independently and distinguished them.
