Training need analysis of call taxi drivers in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India

Abstract

Training is a learning experience, in that it seeks a relatively permanent change in an individual which will improve his (or) her ability to perform on the job. We typically say training can change the skill, knowledge, attitude and social behavior. It means changing what employees know, how they work, their attitude towards their work or their interaction with their co-workers or their supervisors. Descriptive research design was adopted in this study. Judgment sampling technique used to choose samples. Primary data were collected by visiting several cal taxi drivers like Fast Track, NTL, Bharathi Call taxi, Friends track call taxi, Chennai Call Taxi, City Track Call Taxi, Adyar Call Taxi, etc., in Chennai. Totally 100 Chennai car drivers participated through by questionnaire in this study. Chi square, Weighted average test and correlation test were used to measure hypothesis and analyze the training need of call taxi drivers. Findings indicate that there is significant association between work experience of the respondents and understanding new technologies about the car. There is a Positive correlation between communication skill training and customer satisfaction in hospitality and obedience. Findings of this study are only related to the call taxi drivers from Chennai, study period was January to April 2013, and maybe it is not generalized to other Districts and Countries. Call taxi companies need to check their skills and knowledge of car drivers before they appoint for service. Periodical evaluation can be made to analyze the performance of the car drivers. Feedback from the customers will be helpful to know the exact need for training for drivers.
