Model for Boosting Destination Competitiveness of Indian Tourism Industry Bhatia Archana Associate Prof. Head and DEAN, Department of Commerce, Dav C. College, Faridabad Online published on 4 September, 2013. Abstract Tourism today is a leisure activity of the masses. People today travel to international destinations to break the regular monotony of life. Destination competitiveness has become a critical issue in today's increasingly challenging tourism market. Destination Competitiveness is the destination's ability to create and provide value-added products and quality experience which are important to tourists while sustaining its resources and maintaining market position relative to competitors. The paper examines the destination competitiveness of Indian tourism industry on ten attributes and which are based on different articles of destination competitiveness, the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report (TTCR) issued by World Economic Forum and also from various published media. The research concludes that India though has a vast pool of natural resources and also has a price competitive advantage yet it is lacking on the issues of safety and security, maintenance and cleanliness, information and communication, infrastructure, facilities, behavior of country residents. Therefore the researcher has suggested a model of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for boosting the competitiveness of Indian tourism industry.
