Abstract Verotoxic Escherichia coli are widespread in human beings and are of great public health concern. A total 720 samples comprising of 410 stool, 280 meat and fish and 30 environmental samples were collected aseptically from different sources. Diarrhoeal diseases continue to be a major concern for the developing countries as they are a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality besides contributing significantly to the problem of malnutrition in infants.
