Abstract

Ten homozygous okra genotypes were crossed in all possible combinations, in diallel fashion, excluding reciprocals. The experimental materials, consisting of 55 treatments (ten parents viz and 45 crosses) were raised in randomized block design with three replications on two dates of sowing i.e. (i) the first week of June (2007) for rainy season crop, and (ii) last week of June (2007) for late rainy season crop at Vegetable Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, B.H.U. The intensity of the YVMV disease in okra genotypes, and disease severity and intensity were recorded at fifteen days of interval and cumulative data were obtained. Coefficient of infection (CI) and disease infection (PDI) was calculated. This coefficient combines the percentage of disease infection and its severity. Six out of the top ten high yielding cross genotypes, were marked to exert highly resistant (Arka Abhay x Hissar Unnat), resistant (Hissar Unnat x Lam-1), moderately resistant (VRO-6 x Pusa Makhmali, Parbhani Kranti x VRO-6, and Parbhani Kranti x Arka Abhay), and highly sensitive (Parbhani Kranti x Hissar Unnat) reactions in both rainy and late rainy seasons.
