Study of Habitats of Fresh-water Algae in Almora Region of Kumaun Himalaya Negi Kavita, Joshi Hema Dept. of Botany, S.S.J. Campus, Kumaun University, Almora, Uttaranchal. Abstract In the present study algae of aquatic habitats of Almora region are described. Algae can maintain themselves at various aquatic habitats. Their growth is affected by various climatic, topographic and other factors. Many mosses and liverworts presented a favourable habitat for algae, especially blue-green algae. Polluted waters were colonized by blue-greens like Oscillatoria, Phromidium and Nitzschia etc. Wherever water collects in temporary pools a slightly modified habitat was formed in which algae like oppurtunistic flagellates with rapid life-cycles proliferate. Flowing waters, shores, the rock surfaces, plant and animal surfaces, submerged plants, animals and soil etc. provided another habitat. The floating communities occurred as planktons (euplanktons or pseudoplanktens.) Top Keywords Habitat, Fresh water, Almora, Planktons, blue-greens. Top | |
