Abstract It was observed that the percentage of clay and silt, organic carbon, water holding capacity, available Phosphorus and Potassium was higher in advanced condition than worst condition. Root and shoot characteristic with respect to its ability as protector and binder of soil, Saccharum munja Roxb. proved best and followed byDesmostachya bipinnata (L.)
