Contemporary attitudes of university students towards disability and their awareness on discrimination

Abstract

Objective

The Aim of this study is to get to know the attitudes of University students towards the challenges of person with disability and assess their basic awareness regarding legal regulations related to person with disability.

Methods

The research was conducted upon the students of University of Lucknow. The total of 320 students were included in the study. Initially Purposive Sampling was used to select the University and later on Simple Random Sampling was used to collect data from students through Google Questionnaire.

Results

It was found that majority of the students were aware about challenges of disability and they also know about the legal regulations related to disability. While some other students are not aware about the same. Under-graduation students are less aware about the same due to lack of literature in their curriculum.

Conclusions

Students awareness about disability is directly linked to the literature in their curriculum. Majority of students are aware about basic information related to discrimation with person with disability.
