Online published on 13 January, 2016. Abstract An attempt has been made in this paper to examine the economics of improved paddy cultivation in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh. The study was conducted in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh. Out of 5 blocks of Koriya district, Manendragarh block was selected purposively. A sample of 60 respondents was selected three village of selected blocks by using probability proportional to size techniques method subject to condition that at list 10 respondents should be included on sample from each of three categories of farms i. e. small (up to 2 ha.), medium (>2 to 4 ha.) and large farmer (above 4 ha.). Primary data from the farmers was collected through well prepared schedule and questionnaire pertaining to the year 2011–12. Simple mean and average method was used to calculate the economics of paddy crop. Study revealed that the, the average cost of cultivation per hectare for paddy, Rs. 8472.69, on the sample farms. The per hectare yield of paddy, on an average, come to 18.61 quintal on the sample farms. The average value of net income came to Rs.13421.61, for paddy. The major constraints pertaining to cultivation of major crops were lack of technical knowledge, followed by low adoption of recommended package of practices of crops and lack of financing. Study suggested imparting the technical knowledge and irrigation facilities are to be developed in the proper way so that famers can adopt improved technologies with assured irrigation facilities. It is essential to adopt the production system approach by linking the production technology, credit and marketing of major crops. Top Keywords Economic, paddy. Top | |
