Online published on 13 January, 2016. Abstract An attempt has been made in this paper to examine the economics of maize cultivation in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh. The study was conducted in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh. Out of 5 blocks of Koriya district, Manendragarh block was selected purposively. A sample of 60 respondents was selected three village of selected blocks by using probability proportional to size techniques method subject to condition that at list 10 respondents should be included on sample from each of three categories of farms i. e. small (up to2 ha.), medium (>2 to 4 ha.) and large farmer (above 4 ha.). Primary data from the farmers was collected through well prepared schedule and questionnaire pertaining to the year 2011–12. Simple mean and average method was used to calculate the economics of paddy crop. Study revealed that the, cost of labour in per hectare cost of cultivation of maize was higher on large farms. It was increasing with the farms sizes. Maximum percent i.e. 27.17 Family labour was found in case of small farmers. More hired labour was used by large farmers. Overall labour cost of maize cultivation was Rs. 2131.44 per hectare. Only marginal farmers were using bullock power. Cost of machine power showed increasing trend with farm sizes. Average yield per hectare of maize came to 11.98 quintals of main product and 15.18 quintal of by-product on the sample farms. The cost of production per quintal, on an average was worked out to 434.52 Rs/quintal for main product. It was highest in case of medium size of followed larger size of farm. The average value of output per hectare came to Rs. 11735.99 and Rs. 607.33 for by main and by products. The average input-output ratio in maize came to 1: 2.34 on the sampled farm. On an average cost-A, cost B and cost-C were worked out to Rs. 4252.97, Rs. 6302.97 and Rs. 7483.84, respectively, on the sample farms. Top Keywords Economic analysis, Maiz. Top | |
