Abstract A field experiment (kharif 2012) was conducted at the Central Research Farm (Gayeshpur), Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya with two varieties [JRBJ-05-4 and Bidhan Ricebean-1] and four phosphorus levels [0, 30, 60 and 90 kg ha−1]. The results revealed that highest green fodder yield (367.20 q ha−1), dry matter yield (49.60 q ha−1) and crude protein yield (5.59 q ha−1) were obtained with variety Bidhan Ricebean-1. Application of phosphorus had a significant effect on both green fodder and dry matter yield. Application of phosphorus at the rate of 90 kg ha−1 gave the maximum green fodder yield (385.20 q ha−1) and application of phosphorus at the rate of 60 kg ha−1 gave the maximum dry matter yield (51.54 q ha−1). There was no significant difference between these two levels of phosphorus for green fodder and dry matter yield, while application of phosphorus at the rate of 90 kg ha−1 showed a positive effect on increasing crude protein yield.
