Online published on 13 January, 2016. Abstract Soil testing is the key for management decisions about fertilizer requirement and judicious use. The main culprit to blame for unsustainable productivity and soil fertility decline is imbalances in fertilizer use and thus deterioration of soil's chemical, biological and physical qualities. Balance use of the fertilizer is one of the important indicators of productivity, viability, sustainable land management and better soil health. In order to attain higher productivity and profitability, farmers need to realize that fertility levels must be measured as these measurements can then be used to manage soil fertility. The majority of the farmers had knowledge about soil testing and majority of them were applying the knowledge gained from the scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhatapara, Raipur (C.G.). Most of the respondents were disagreed with the attitude statements and revealed unfavorable opinion towards soil testing. More than half of the farmers were in positive with the statements ‘soil testing is necessary for sustainable land management and it is important for future generation ’. Much emphasis is needed to inspire the farmers for soil testing practices by organizing training programmes on importance of soil testing, soil fertility management for sustainable crop production, soil test and health campaigns with special attention.
