Abstract

Forty genotypes of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) were studied at Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari (Gujarat) during the rabi 2010–11. for their Genetic divergence following D2 analysis. The study indicated that the genotypes were grouped into nine clusters. Intra cluster diatance was highest in cluster III followed by cluster IV and II. Inter cluster distance was maximum between cluster IV avd V followed by I and IV. Among the 11 characters studied for genetic divergence, protein content contributed the maximum accounting for 53.85% of total divergence, followed by days 50% flowering (16.41%) and seed yield per plant (15.90%). The study indicated that for obtaining heterotic response as well as better segregants, inter-mating between genotypes of diverse clusters may be undertaken in breeding programmes for improving yield and quality traits.
