Abstract An experiment was excavated during 2010–12 at three locations viz., Surat, Navsari and Achhalia, to estimate the heterobeltosis for seed cotton yield and fibre quality traits. The heterobeltosis was varied from 43.00 (GSHV 01/1338 x TCB 26) to -26.36 per cent (G cot 20 x Suvin) for seed cotton yield, -22.05 G Cot 20 x GSB 40 to 18.30 per cent GSHV 01/12 x Suvin for ginning percentage, 22.44 (GSHV 01/1338 x TCB 26) to 13.61 per cent (GSHV 01/12 x Suvin) for fibre length, -16.60 (GSHV 01/1338 x RAB 8) to 31.95 pr cent (G Cot 20 x GSB 40) for fibre strength, -12.42 (G Cot 20 x RAB 8) o 13.17 per cent (GSHV 01/12 x GSB 40) for micronaire, 2.72 (GSHV 01/1338 x Suvin) to 10.26 per cent (GSHV 01/12 x CCB 5) for maturity coefficient and 15.16 (G Cot 10 x TCB 26) to 0.00 per cent (GSHV 97/612 x GSB 41) for uniformity ratio. The six hybrids viz., GSHV 01/1338 x TCB 26 (43.00%), GSHV 01/12 x GSB 41 (38.48%), G Cot 10 x DB 10 (31.61%), GSHV 01/1338 x GSB 41 (26.33%), G Co 20 x GSB 40 (23.96%) and GSHV 97/612 x GSB 41 (20.28%) exhibited significant position heterosis against better parent. Crosses GSHV 01/1338 x TCB 26, GSHV 01/1338 x GSB 41 and G Cot 20 x SB 40 could be exploited commercially as it possessing good fibre quality with higher yielding potential with sufficient testing.
