Abstract

T01 tunnel’s issue, which lasted for almost 20 years has been resolved with employment of I-System and (I)-TM due to inefficiency of RMR and Q and Conventional tunnelling and NATM. This is explained in details in this paper. It is also provided in this paper the repetition of failures in T01 when conventional classifications like RMR and Q been used and tunnel could not progress more than 1 meter per year when NATM being employed. Importance of employment of a suitable tunnelling method in design procedure for T01 and use of applicable classification and characterisation system is explained. This paper is presenting important information about T01’s history; the most challenging tunnel in India, which took two decades for completion.
