Online published on 18 September, 2012. Abstract This working paper confers the requirement of Indian agriculture on uncertain rains. In addition the agrarians experience other production hazards as well as marketing risks associated to different crop initiatives and for different agro-climatic regions. It then says on the necessity for crop insurance as a substitute to manage production risk. It then takes up the past summary of crop insurance products and their performance. It is followed by the discussion on the presently accessible crop insurance goods for specific crops and areas. It discusses at length the two important products, namely, National Agricultural Insurance Scheme and Climate Based Insurance Scheme. It also replicates on some deficits in these products.
