Abstract A series of novel substituted 2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-N-phenylpropanamide (NAJ1-NAJ8) have been synthesized upon refluxing 2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanoic acid with different substituted anilines in the presence of dry redistilled pyridine and silicon tetrachloride as coupling reagent. The structures of the final synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR and mass spectra. The carboxamide derivatives of naproxen were screened for their analgesic, anti-inflammatory activities and gastric irritation test. Analgesic activity was carried out by writhing method in mice. Anti-inflammatory studies were carried out by carrageenan induced paw edema method. Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and gastric irritation showed statistically significant activity when compared to control. Top Keywords Naproxen, carboxamide, analgesic, anti-inflammatory activity, gastric irritation. Top |
