Abstract

National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) New Delhi is nodal organization engaged the various activities related to enrichment of plant genetic resources in the country. Acquisition of more exotic germplasm as early as possible has become the priority due to latest development under convention on Biological Diversity and other International treaties and laws, which makes flow of genetic resources bit more difficult than it was ever before enforcement of new laws. The germplasm/genetic material contain promising traits related to yield & yield attributing characters, quality character and also resistance to various biotic and aiotic stresses. Germplasm of diverse crops were required for our National needs which will further distributed to various potential users (breeders/crop improvement workers)in the country for its evaluation and further utilization in their ongoing/crop improvement works for our food and nutritional security. An effort has been made to prioritize the Indian needs of crop genetic resources in this presentation.
