Abstract Purpose This paper provides an overview of the level of tribal Naga women’s discursive participation on socio-political issues in Naga Facebook groups, which have become popular spaces for public discourses among the Nagas of Northeast India. Design The study employed ethnographic participant observation on three popular Naga Facebook groups. This approach involved quantitative content analysis by i) a gender-wise count of the number of posts within selected periods, ii) a gender-wise count of comments to selected posts on the 33% Women Reservation issue, and iii) a gender-wise count of responses to a Facebook post with misogynist content. Findings The results showed a very low level of Naga women’s participation compared to the total number of posts and comments by male members. This indicates disparities in opinion expression and engagement between men and women on public Facebook forums.Originality/Value This study reflects the need to identify the social dynamics to create inclusive online spaces as well as discover ways to promote diverse view points and equal participation.
